About Diabetic Alert Dogs

Diabetic alert dogs are amazing service dogs. They assist their T1 Diabetic handlers in identifying low and high blood sugars and blood and urine ketones, before they become a problem. Diabetic alert dogs can effectively save their handlers lives by early detection and potentially help to reduce later complications from diabetes, as long as the T1 Diabetic handler is willing to work with the dog. Diabetic alert dogs and their handlers are two parts of a team, working together to better both the dog and the human.
